The story
Aurora is a small festival with outsized atmosphere: 4,000 people, three stages and a former power station for a venue. The organisers wanted coverage that felt like the festival — intimate, electric and a little grainy at the edges.
Event photography at this scale is endurance work. Each night ran from soundcheck to the 3 a.m. closing set, alternating between the photo pit, the lighting rig catwalk and the crowd itself, where the best frames always live.
The final delivery of 600 images supplied the festival's aftermovie stills, next-year campaign and press kit — and four of the crowd photographs ended up larger than life, printed on the venue's entrance wall the following season.
Behind the scenes
Shot at ISO 3200-12800 with fast primes and no flash, ever — the lighting designer's work is the show, and the camera's job is to keep up with it.
